How to open a hairdresser salon in Poland!

If you are interested how to open a hairdresser salon in Poland, in this article we will help you understand what you need to do for this.

The requirements of the sanitary epidemiological station for opening a hairdresser salon

First of all, one of the main control bodies during the work of the hairdresser salon is Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. In order to be able to conduct business in your chosen premises, you need to get permission from Voivodship Sanitary Inspector (Wojewódzki Inspektor Sanitarny). For this, within 14 days from the date of commencement of activity, a corresponding application is submitted to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. The form should contain information regarding the technical characteristics for conducting this activity.

Sanitary requirements for a hairdresser are determined by a Regulation of Minister of Health dated February 17, 2004 (Rozporządzenie Ministra Zdrowia z dn. 17 lutego 2004 r.) on specific sanitary requirements must be met by hairdressers, cosmetic and tattoo parlors, health centers.

The room must have access to hot and cold water. It is unacceptable to smoke (unless a separate room has been allocated for these purposes) and to allow any animals to stay in the salon.

In accordance with the requirements of the sanitary and epidemiological station, a hairdresser also needs to organize at least two workplaces for performing services and an additional separate place for washing and drying hair, which should be equipped with a washbasin with hot and cold water.

It is also necessary to have clear procedures regarding disinfection (hands, furniture, seats, walls, floors and reusable instruments) and sterilization (for example, those parts of devices that cannot be disinfected) - during inspections of the sanitary and epidemiological station they often pay attention to disinfection and sterilization processes.

Fiscal cash register

Recently, all entrepreneurs providing hairdressing services are required to register sales using a fiscal cash register. For new entrepreneurs, there is a chance to take advantage of the discount on its purchase (reimbursed up to 700 zł).

Hairdresser salon and fees at ZAIKS

If music will play in the hairdresser salon, you need to purchase a license and pay a monthly or one-off fee for the organization of collective management, representing creators, performers and producers. However, you can avoid such formalities by playing music that does not require the purchase of a license, which is publicly available.

It is worth noting that in the hairdresser salon you can serve (or sell) soft drinks - you must comply with the requirements relating to expiry dates of food.

Only when entrepreneurial activity is registered, obligations related to social insurance, VAT, purchase of a license and a cash fiscal register are fulfilled, and Sanitary and Epidemiological Station confirms the suitability of the premises for this activity, it will be possible to proceed to the interior of the salon and the provision of relevant services in it.

Localization

Salons providing hairdressing and beauty services should be located in a separate building or premises. The room should be allocated for:

  • services,
  • storage for outerwear,
  • waiting place for customers,
  • sanitary-hygienic devices for clients of the salon and those working in the salon, with the obligatory presence of soap and paper towels;
  • equipment for maintaining cleanliness in the room,
  • storage of cosmetics, clean and dirty things (towels, aprons, napkins, etc.),
  • installation for garbage containers for customers and salon employees,
  • places for washing and coloring hair with a sink and hot, cold water.

The room must be connected to the sewer.

Lighting

The room should be provided with daylight and artificial lighting. It is assumed that windows should be 1/8 of the area of the room. In turn, artificial lighting should be both ceiling and spot (at each workplace). Illumination should not be less than 500 LKS, and lamps of light sources cannot cause glare and must be fully operational.

Lighting is allowed only with artificial light, subject to the consent of the competent state regional sanitary inspector. Please note that workrooms and workstations must be protected from excessive sunlight.

Heating and ventilation

In workrooms where light physical work is performed, the temperature should not be lower than 18 ° C. However, this does not mean that the temperature may be too high. It is generally accepted that the temperature should not exceed 30 ° C.

The rules also prescribe the protection of workplaces from the influx of cold air from the outside. In salons, it is necessary to eliminate systematically the excess heat and moisture released by working tools, i.e.:

  • hair dryers, curlers, straighteners, razors, water used for work,

In addition, hairdresser owners must prevent the occurrence and spread of infection between employees and clients of the salon. Given a number of potential sources of air pollution: viruses, bacteria, fungi, dust, chemicals, a beauty salon cannot function without an adequate supply and exhaust ventilation system.

Conditioning

The role of conditioning is to provide employees and customers of salons with proper hygienic conditions, maintaining the right temperature, humidity, pressure, safe composition of the air.

Ventilation should not cause drafts, cooling or overheating of working rooms. The air supplied to the working rooms from the outside by mechanical ventilation or air conditioning must be free of dust and harmful substances.

The air flow coming from the ventilation units should not be directed to the workplace. In the case of air conditioning and mechanical ventilation, technical maintenance of the equipment is recommended in order to prevent their breakdown, and also to take measures (technical and organizational) aimed at reducing the impact of noise.

Soundproofing

The main sources of noise at workplaces in hairdressing salons are working tools: hair dryers, clippers, fans, air conditioners, as well as calls from customers and employees. To eliminate noise, it is recommended:

  • the use of sound-absorbing materials on the walls and ceiling of the room,
  • use of devices with the lowest noise level (hair dryers, razors, air conditioners, etc.),
  • using acoustic screens between loud workstations, or removing them at some distance from each other,
  • do not place air conditioners in the immediate vicinity of workplaces,
  • distance of jobs for cutting / dyeing from places of shampooing, manicure / pedicure, depilation, etc.

If it is not possible to eliminate the high noise level, the employer should equip employees with protective equipment (headphones, ear plugs).

Entrance to the main hall

Entrance and exit from the salon must be unobstructed, that is, there should be nothing at the door and on the way to the door that could interfere with a quick, effective evacuation. Furniture and equipment for the work must be removed from the escape routes. If the entrance to the salon goes directly from the street, there must be a lobby outside the door, for proper thermal insulation of the room, separated by a second internal door from the rest of the room.

Work rooms

The height of the stationary working room should not be less than:

  • 3 m. if there are no unhealthy factors in the room,
  • 3 m. if work is carried out in the room that could lead to the appearance of substances harmful to health,
  • 5 m. if special compatibility is issued to reduce height a low-ceilinged salon can only have 4 employees and must be air-conditioned.

The floor should be smooth, made of non-slip materials, easy to clean and resistant to disinfectants. Any dirt should be removed immediately. If there are faults, steps, stairs, they must be correctly marked.

It is recommended that if the walls are covered with bright paint / finish, the material with a smooth surface that is easy to wash up should be to a height of 2 m.

A workplace is at least 2 square meters of free floor for one employee. If there are separate points of service in the salon, the distance between the individual workplaces should be at least 0.75 m.

Electricity

The electrical wire must be designed and deployed so that it does not come into contact with pipes and water. The minimum distance of any device from water is 60 cm. Each electrical circuit must be equipped with a fuse, so that at the time of failure it was possible to turn off the power supply and prevent fire.

In addition, you should pay attention to whether the electrical installations, wiring and extension cords have intact insulation, whether electrical outlets are tight, or whether they are firmly fixed to walls, countertops. The correct (in accordance with the recommendations) operation of electrical equipment is important.

Modern security measures and compliance with the rules should be applied to minimize the risk of equipment and wiring failure, which pose a threat to the safety of customers, employees and property.
